New born & Preemie HPS

Overview

Human Patient Simulators (HPS) often called ‘Manikins’ (definition – a jointed model of the human body, used in anatomy) are the largest pieces of equipment that teams use to conduct simulation training on a regular basis, this is mainly because they allow for a fully immersive situation to play out and learn from. The clinical decision making for all professionals can be managed and run using these items.

King’s Academy hosts a family of HPS in its portfolio to enable all areas of the Trust to be able to access simulation as much as possible. From a new born baby (and Premature baby) to adult and elderly manikins, allowing us to educate from ‘cradle to grave’.

We are equipment agonistic, meaning that we do not believe in purchasing equipment from a specific manufacturer. Our experts work closely with the course leads to explore the learning objectives and use the best equipment to achieve the aim. You will, therefore find that our family of simulators are from multiple companies with a range of features, so if there is something in particular you are thinking of, please ask and we would be delighted to work through your needs.

Our simulators are extremely realistic and may be a trigger to some

Super Tory

Super Tory is designed to emulate a neonatal patient encompassing a vast array of features and functionalities. The manikin boasts highly realistic skin texture, coloration, and anatomical landmarks and ventilator compliance, providing an immersive experience for learners. Its body articulation and joint mobility closely mimic that of a newborn, allowing for realistic positioning and handling during procedures.

One of the most striking aspects of Super Tory is its comprehensive physiological simulation capabilities. It accurately replicates vital signs, including heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, allowing learners to monitor and respond to dynamic patient conditions in real-time. Furthermore, Super Tory can simulate various medical conditions and clinical scenarios, from common ailments to critical emergencies, providing learners with a diverse and challenging training environment.

Super Tory’s versatility extends beyond its physiological simulation. The manikin features interchangeable components that allow educators to customise scenarios and target specific learning objectives. From normal deliveries to complex neonatal resuscitations, Super Tory can be adapted to simulate a wide range of clinical scenarios, ensuring learners receive tailored and relevant training experiences.

In addition to its lifelike appearance and physiological simulation, Super Tory incorporates advanced technology to enhance the learning experience further. It features interactive touchscreen interfaces that allow educators to control and adjust patient parameters, simulate clinical interventions, and provide real-time feedback to learners. Additionally, Super Tory can be integrated with virtual reality and augmented reality platforms, enabling immersive and interactive training experiences that bridge the gap between simulation and clinical practice.

Micro-Preemie

Due to their premature birth, micro-preemies arrive several months ahead of schedule, often necessitating prolonged stays in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). While many of these extremely premature infants ultimately grow up without long-term complications, the majority confront significant health challenges at birth.

The initial healthcare interventions they receive can profoundly influence their short-term and long-term development. Consequently, comprehensive medical education is vital in maximising the quality of care provided to these infants, ensuring optimal outcomes both in the immediate and distant future
