King’s Bariatric Study Day
About this event
This comprehensive one-day programme provides healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills in bariatric care and obesity management. Led by specialist facilitator, Eleni Angeli, the study day covers the complete patient pathway from understanding obesity physiology through to post-surgical care and long-term weight management.
The course combines evidence-based clinical learning with practical application through interactive sessions and clinical scenarios. Participants will gain confidence in addressing weight management with patients and develop competence in caring for bariatric surgery patients across all healthcare settings.
Course is delivered Face-to-Face in an interactive learning environment from 8:30 to 16:30 and attendees will receive a certificate of completion valid for 2 years. Bi-annual update is recommended.

Understanding the physiology of body weight regulation, factors contributing to weight gain, and obstacles to successful weight loss.
09:30 – 10:00 | Stigma and Prejudices
Recognising weight bias in healthcare, understanding its impact on patients, and promoting compassionate, non-judgemental care.
10:00 – 10:30 | Primary Care of Weight Management
Weight management approaches across different healthcare settings, raising the topic appropriately, and available treatment options.
10:30 – 10:45 | Morning Break
10:45 – 11:15 | Surgical Treatment of Obesity
Current bariatric surgical procedures, risks and benefits of each option, and factors influencing surgical choice.
11:15 – 12:00 | Care of Bariatric Patients
Inpatient post-operative care and lifelong aftercare requirements for bariatric surgery patients.
12:00 – 13:00 | Lunch Break
Afternoon Sessions
13:00 – 13:30 | Diet and Nutrition After Surgery
Post-operative diet stages, nutritional needs, restrictions, and supporting patients through dietary transitions.
13:30 – 14:00 | Obesity and Mental Health
Prevalence of mental health conditions in obesity, food reward mechanisms, psychological assessment and pre-operative optimisation.
14:00 – 14:30 | Pharmacotherapy
Non-surgical medical treatments for obesity, key treatment components, and factors influencing treatment selection.
14:30 – 15:00 | Clinical Scenarios
Interactive case-based learning to consolidate knowledge and develop practical problem-solving skills.
15:00 – 15:30 | Feedback and Certificate Distribution

What certification will I receive?
All participants who complete the full study day will receive a Certificate of Attendance suitable for inclusion in professional portfolios and revalidation evidence.

No pre-course preparation is required. All necessary learning will be delivered during the study day.

Yes. This course is designed for all healthcare professionals who may encounter patients with obesity or who have had bariatric surgery, regardless of their usual clinical setting.
