At King’s Academy we regularly host the King’s College Hospital’s Pre-registration nursing team as they deliver a variety of their courses. These include; Practice Assessor & Practice Supervisor training, IV Cannulation SIM, NG Catheterisation SIM, Student Nurse Inductions, Transition Days.
Pre-registration nursing is an education path for people who are not yet nurses, it gives individuals the academic knowledge and clinical skills needed to apply for a professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The program aims to balance classroom lectures with supervised clinical hours in order to teach safe, compassionate and person-centred care across different areas like adult, mental health or children’s nursing.
The Practice Assessor & Practice Supervisor training days are the most frequent lecture based Pre-registration sessions that we host at the academy. These days focus on preparing individuals for the specific roles of Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor. Practice Assessors evaluate, confirm and document whether a student have achieved required program outcomes for a placement. Practice Supervisors provide day-to-day support, supervision, and feedback to pre-registration nursing students within the clinical area. Both of these roles require regular updates or annual reflective discussions tied to NMC revalidation.
IV Cannulation and NG Catheterisation SIM are the most frequent sessions that utilise our clinical skills space and provides a more practical and hands-on approach to learning. The IV Cannulation session focuses on arm anatomy, vein selection, infection control, and complication management. The NG Catheterisation session focuses on urinary tract structure, indications and infection control.
